Start a Q Place

Green circle group cropped

Are you interested in learning how you can start a Q Place?  Excellent!  We are glad to hear it!

The Q Place method is all about forming authentic, loving relationships with the people in your group.  This takes time, patience, commitment, and prayer.  Q Place sees this process in four stages:  Preparation, Invitation, Trial Meeting, and Growth.

Preparation

Q Place recommends that  Q Place initiators have a fellow initiator to lead a group.  Once you find a partner, you and your co-initiator are encouraged to pray over your future group.  With the help of local Q Place catalysts, you and your co-initiator can join or form a Turbo Group.  A Turbo Group is a group future Q Place initiators in training.  Members of a Turbo Group go through Mary Schaller's training series, How to Start a Q Place, over a period of six weeks.  This can be done either in person or over the phone.  In the Turbo Group, you will discuss why Q Place is culturally relevant and the challenges you may face as a leader.  You will talk with peers about the best ways to invite people to a group and how to make the most of every opportunity to witness and ask questions that evoke spiritual curiosity in others.  Most importantly, you will learn to lean on the Holy Spirit for His guidance.  You will finish the course by going through a sample Tough Questions Q Place.

Invitation

Once you complete your Turbo Group, you and your co-initiator are now ready to Start a Q Place!  Begin by praying for those whom you feel called to invite.  Invite folks to a comfortable place, whether a home or a coffee shop, etc., and have a Trial Meeting.

Trial Meeting

The Trial Meeting is where folks start to get comfortable in the group and where they get to know each other.  Typical Trial Meetings include going through some of the questions from 1001 Complete Book of Questions by Garry Poole.  At this meeting, try to establish a time and place for meeting on a regular basis.

Growth

Once the group gets settled, they choose their curriculum, whether continuing with the Complete Book of Questions or moving on to the Tough Questions series or an inductive Bible study series.   Over time, you will see more and more people engaging directly with scripture at their own pace.  Through asking questions, instead of always giving answers, you will find that sharing your faith becomes much simpler than you may have realized.  Continue to pray for the participants and enjoy the adventure of witnessing the Holy Spirit transform lives!
